Polka Dot Challenge

Hello friends,

First off, thanks to everyone who left such nice comments. Hopefully I will stumble and bumble my way to a blog worth visiting. Thank you Stephanie for mentioning my new blog on your blog.

Last year my friends Stephanie and Nonnie and I decided to have a polka dot challenge. We each bought matching fat quarters of 6 different polka dot fabrics. The rule was to complete our projects by Christmas. Nonnie made a too cute toddler quilt with apliqued ice cream cones. Stephanie made a wonderful little picnic mat and matching bag.(if you go to Stephanie's blog, she has pictures of these.) Weeeeeeell, pokey me couldn't come up with a good idea. Needless to say, Christmas came and went and all I had to show for it was nicely laundered and folded polka dot fabric! It took being sick for 2 weeks for an idea to come. Funny how creative one can be when stuck at home blowing one's nose. (sorry, TMI I guess). Well, as I told you in an earlier post, I love to piece but hate to quilt so am showing you the quilt top only. It could be months and months before the rest gets done. Hmmm, maybe I'll just pay to get it quilted. :-)
I really like the big bowties in the center. They are "3-D" in that the center of the bow just floats on the quilt. They are just cleverly sewn in the middle, out of sight.

The quilt top is 51X51 inches.

Talk at you later, Rumi

  1. I just love this quilt. Did you draft the scottie dog pattern yourself? I didn't realise it's so big. Congratulations!

  2. I can't take credit for the scottie dog block pattern. It was free pattern I got a few years ago from www.mccallsquilting.com. Too cute though huh.

  5. I love your Scottie Dog quilt - just so cute! And I really like the little bowties you put in the border corners. Very clever!
Welcome to Blogland. There's a great group of quilters around here. Lots of company and support. I like what I see on your blog...and I agree with you. Love piecing, not so great on the quilting! :)

  6. Hi Rumi, this is my first time to visit our blog.. I love the things you make. The scottie dog top is adorable.. I have always wanted to try one of those. For some reason the little black dogs look so cute with 1930's prints.. or colorful polka dots. Very nice!

  7. Your quilt is so cute. Yes, just pay someone to quilt it for you. Then it won't be a UFO anymore. I like to hand quilt small projects but it is definitely worth it saving my shoulders and back to let someone else do my big quilts.

  8. Your quilt top is really sharp. Love the 3D bow ties. I've been wanting to make a bow tie quilt out of my dad's old ties, but that won't be happening soon. I understand your not liking to quilt but enjoying the piecing. I'm trying to quilt a wall hanging today and all the quilting is detracting from the piecing.
