Pin Quilt

Hello Friends,

Anyone out there collect pins? Well my daughter had several neat little pins that needed a home other than in a plastic baggie thrown in a desk drawer.

I came up with this scrappy pin quilt. It measures 17-inches square with 2-inch squares for showcasing the pins.

The problem to solve was how to hang this on the wall without all the little pinbacks scratching up the wall behind it.

I basically extended the rod pocket to cover the entire back. Top and bottom were enclosed in the binding.

Open on both sides, it was easy to add pins.

Memorial Day

Hello Friends,
While we are enjoying our Memorial Day barbeques and Memorial Day shoe sales at the mall, let us not forget the true reason for this holiday. Thank you, thank you to all the service men and women who fought to keep us safe and thank you to their families as well. Rumi

Organizers

Next batch of organizer wallets are done. I'm still looking for the perfect button for the gummy bear organizer.

Also just added Flickr to my sidebar. What a fun "show and tell" site this is.

Rainbow Block Swap

Yea! My swap blocks have arrived and every one is lovely!

Now the decision is how to put them together! What fun!

I also received a package from Jane.

At first I thought it was a wonderful stack of fat quarters, which would have been awesome!

It actually turned out to be coasters--even more awesome!! Thanks Jane, that was so very nice!

In the woods

Yesterday was dark and stormy but today is glorious! The sun is shining and the temperature is mild. I love sitting out on the back porch listening to the birds and watching the squirrels. We live in a housing developement and there are houses all around us but during the spring, summer and the beginning of fall, it feels like we live in a cabin in the woods. We are surrounded on 3 sides by trees (mainly maples) It is easy to forget that we have neighbors only a few feet away.

Touching Little Lives

I'm still sewing away on customer orders but took some time out to do some charity sewing. As I've blogged before, here, I volunteer for a charity called Touching Little Lives. They provide clothing, quilts, blankets etc. for preemie as well as needy babies in Ohio. They also help grieving families whose little preemie babies were too small to survive. Besides providing tiny burial outfits for the babies, memorial bags are presented to the parents. A little stuffed animal, their baby's footprint, and other items are included in each bag. Hopefully these bags provide some comfort.

Unfortunately, this morning was dark and rainy so I could not get a nice picture.

Take me out to the ball game

Hello friends, I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's day. I had quite an adventuresome Mother's Day weekend. Friday evening, Mr. Lucky, daughter Miki and I met several friends at our local AAA baseball stadium to watch the Columbus Clippers unfortunately lose to the Pawtucket Red Sox. (forgot camera so no pics)
Saturday afternoon Miki, my friend Catherine and I drove a couple hours north to pick up my friend Hope and we all drove up to Cleveland and met other friends to watch the Cleveland Indians unfortunately lose to the Detroit Tigers.



We decided to arrive in Cleveland early enough to have a leisurely dinner at the Winking Lizard restaurant. Ballpark concession food is not on my list of favorite things.



While waiting in line to get into the stadium we saw the Marine Corp Band getting ready to enter the stadium too. They performed the National Anthem before the game. Don't they look sharp in their uniforms?



Our seats were w-a-a-ay up but we had a great view of the entire field. The maintenance crew was getting the field ready for the game. The stadium was pretty full once the game started.



Everyone who attended the game received a free bobblehead doll of Cliff Lee. Any big baseball fans out there wishing they got one of these?


We stayed at Hope's that night and got on the road late Mother's Day morning for what should have been a 2 hour drive home. Of course, what's an adventure without a few bumps and detours. We were a little more than halfway home when we had a flat tire. Luckily we had AAA roadside service so we did eventually have a nice young man come to our rescue. We could have changed the tire ourselves but my daughter did not have the correct tools in her car. (that is now remedied)
By this time we were pretty hungry so stopped for lunch at this restaurant called "The Pub" for lunch size portions of fish and chips; pints for Catherine and me and diet coke for our driver, Miki.
All in all an interesting Mother's Day.

Wonderland Tea

While at Disney's Magic Kingdom last month, I spied an adorable tea set in a gift shop that I had to have.

The Alice in Wonderland teapot holds 5 cups of tea. The tea cups and matching saucers are a generous size as well. I only wish there were matching sugar and cream bowls.



Well, of course I HAD to get a tin of Wonderland tea as well.
Here is a pic of the lid. I honestly bought this only for the tin. I fully expected the tea inside to be undrinkably bad. I was very pleased to discover the tea is quite tasty! It is a blend of black tea with ginger, peach and apricot flavors (but no mustard--don't let's be silly!) Under the directions for brewing it says, "Start at the beginning (and when you get to the end...stop!)"



I invited my friend Stephanie over for tea. She brought some wonderful cranberry orange scones.

My husband, Mr. Lucky, travels alot and buys scones at every opportunity and he claims hers are the best he has ever tasted. Yes friends, they are that good!

She also brought me some bamboo knitting needles. How nice was that!
We had a lovely time and even got some crocheting in. Nothing brightens up a cold rainy day like having a friend over for tea!



As a final note, my kooky crazy Christmas cactus is at it again! Decided to send out a few blooms. I have had this plant for 20 years and have never had it bloom as often as it has this year!

Blue Scrap Quilt

Here is a blue scrap quilt I made about a year ago. My daughter needed a wedding gift in a hurry. She had searched for a couple of months for a nice gift that was within her budget but couldn't find anything she liked. She called me and I got on it super fast!
I didn't have time to get it quilted or attempt to quilt it myself so I ended up tying it. I'm told her friend loves it and I am pleased.
