Red scrap quilt

Hi Friends,

I have been a busy gal lately. I have been lucky enough to have had a nice little run of local orders for my organizers. (I blogged about them on March 28th--I haven't yet learned how to hyperlink you to that post) Anyways, I have done no personal sewing so nothing new to report. Until I catch up on my orders, I will show some past projects.

A few years back I made this scrap quilt for my friend Ang when she had her first daughter. She wanted a larger than average sized baby quilt; I made it so it could be used well into toddlerhood.

Her new daughter's room had a Winnie the Pooh theme and it may be very hard to see on the screen but the backing is Winnie the Pooh fabric that I striped with the same red print that I used for the border and binding.

Spring Scarf

I was browsing around the Purlbee site and came across a scarf pattern that I truly loved. It is knit with fingering weight yarn in a checkerboard lace pattern. (April 1, 2009 post). While it is too late in the season to wear now, it will be perfect for cool spring days next year. Love the spring green yarn I found at my local yarn shop. I took this project with me to Florida and while everyone else was poolside, I stayed in and knit. Now that's my idea of a vacation. No chores, no appointments, no work, very little cooking and time to knit in the middle of the day!

This is about 1/3 done and will look much nicer once it is blocked.

My daughter moved back home while she looks for a new job. She brought home a fun video game called Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix. Too fun! She had my feet tangled in a mess but it was fun. You follow the arrows to the beat of the music and it scores your accuracy.

Miki is quite good at it; and at the higer levels, you will get a great workout! Here are her fancy steppin' feet!

That's all for today. Talk at you later. Rumi

Home again

Hello friends! We came home last night after spending a wonderful vacation in Orlando, Florida. Most of our week was spent relaxing in the warm sun but we did venture out a couple of days to amusement parks. Disney's Magic Kingdom was our first stop. Here is a pic of the cute Mickey topiary that beckoned us in.

Next we were greeted by Belles in pretty dresses.

There were about a dozen or more girls in matching dresses in assorted pastel colors. Even in the early morning the temperature was high and I'm sure they were quite warm in all that polyester lovliness but they certainly didn't let on. They stood in the hot sun for picture after picture.

A few days later we went to Sea World. We watched Shamu the killer whale show which was great fun.

The manatees are loved by Floridians and while they are not on anyone's beauty list, they are quite endearing.

This morning I went to the post office to pick up our mail that they had been holding for us while we were gone. I was so happy to see an envelope from Australia in amongst the bills and ads! It was the giveaway I won from Lurline. She gave away gifts to celebrate her birthday and blogaversary. Look at this beautiful package. A lovely note was attached.

Inside was her fabulous bag filled with all kinds of goodies! Ladies, this little bag looks great on the computer screen but it is so much nicer in person! Just dripping with cuteness!

Wonderful thread, a cute notepad and a cherry ripe bar which I had to fight my family for! I ended up sharing with my hubby and daughter and believe me--it was totally yummy! The inside of the bag is too cute too! Take a look!

Thank you so much Lurline! Hugs across the water!

Well, I've got unpacking to do so will end here. Ahhh, it's good to get away but it's also good to get home.

Blog break

Hello friends,

I'll be taking a short blog break. I'm escaping the temperamental spring weather of Ohio to bask in Florida sunshine for a few days. Hubby, Mr. Lucky (he certainly isn't Mr. Frog! LOL!) will be taking along his laptop so I'll try to check in to see what's going on in the blog world from time to time during my Florida stay.

I leave you with a picture of my sweet little dog Farrah. (Doesn't she look like a total air-head in this picture? :-) She really is a smart little cookie though)

Knit Easter Egg

Recently Stephanie told me about a project on purlbee (March 16, 2008 project) It was a cute knit egg ornament. Well, I had to give it a go.

Cute huh! Well there's more. The fun part was decorating it!

If I was one to decorate for various holidays (and I'm not--with the exception of Christmas) I would make a bunch of these in different pastel colors and hang them somewhere in the house. A friend said she used to get a pretty branch from her yard and spraypaint it. I guess it would then be secured to something and Easter decorations would be hung from it. Sounds cute!

Short and sweet post today! Talk at you later! Rumi

Elephant

The front page of our newspaper showed an adorable picture of a baby elephant born in the local zoo last week

I'm in one of those weird moods where random thoughts swirl. (you get them too right? right?) It got me thinking about elephants. Elephants, being huge, seem to need a huge name--well, like "Elephant". In Japanese they are called "Zo". What! Couldn't they think of a larger name?

Next thought...that baby looks so cute and you want to just squeeze him. He was 290 pounds when he was born. 290!

Next thought...it takes about 6 months for a baby elephant to gain control of that trunk. At first it just waves around randomly. Kind of like a baby having no control over his arms and fingers. Once they master that trunk though, they can pick up something as small as a peanut with it.

Final thought...elephants are smart but are they artistic? Give some elephants a paintbrush and humans say art has been created. Do you think elephants think that? Or are they just randomly waving their trunk with no thought process involved? Well, either way, this girl bought an elephant painting and hung it in her entryway for all to see.

Art lover or sucker---you decide.

Rainbow block swap

I have been having fun working on my rainbow block swap hosted by Jane at Jane's Fabric and Quilts I picked the Ohio Star for my block since I like the pattern and also thought it was fitting since I now live in Ohio. I wanted to do something a little different that the standard pattern. I had a pattern in one of my old quilt magazines that meshed 4 Ohio Stars together. I loved the way it looked but the pattern was for a 9 1/2-inch block. I fiddled with the pattern to make it into a 12-inch block but geez Louise that meant EVERY piece had to be measured to the 16th of an inch. A little bit of a headache but I think it turned out ok.

I think the green fabrics are much prettier in person than on the computer. The star points are Michael Miller's fabric and has a wonderful shimmer about it. The center of the stars have the cutest little snails scattered randomly around. I tried to make sure each block had at least 1 or 2 snails!

I have a few more to make and then it's off to Jane!
